Estimates only, based on typical UK market rates. Final cost depends on design, access, installation, planning consent and location. Always get formal quotes from more than one sign maker before committing.

What drives the price of a sign?

Size. Most of the cost of a larger sign is material and fabrication, but a share is fixed regardless of size — design, survey, setup and installation. A sign twice the area does not cost twice as much.

Material. Foamex is the budget option for flat panels, Dibond the common mid-range choice, and aluminium or acrylic the premium end. For built-up letters, tray signs and vehicle wraps the fabrication method matters far more than the substrate.

Illumination. Adding light means wiring, a transformer and usually an electrician, which is why it carries its own cost rather than a percentage uplift.

Installation and access. A fascia sign at ground level is straightforward. Anything needing scaffolding, a cherry picker, road closure or out-of-hours work will add to the quoted price.

Planning consent. Illuminated signs, large signs, conservation areas and listed buildings usually require express consent. See our guide to planning permission for business signs.
